Review Highlights Growing Role of AI in Wound Care

A 2026 scoping review published in the International Wound Journal examined the use of AI-enabled digital health tools for wound assessment and documentation across clinical settings. Reviewing 11 studies, the authors found that these technologies can support automated wound measurement, imaging, documentation, longitudinal monitoring and clinical decision-making, with evidence suggesting good agreement with conventional assessment methods and feasibility in practice. However, the review also identified important gaps around long-term sustainability, integration with electronic health records and scalability, highlighting the need for further real-world implementation research.
