Winning New Zealand’s War Against Wounds with AI

Te Whatu Ora MidCentral has introduced a nurse-led digital wound care program using AI-powered imaging technology to improve wound assessment, monitoring and documentation. The system allows clinicians and patients to securely capture and track wound images over time, helping identify non-healing wounds earlier and enabling specialist support for people in rural and remote locations. Following a successful trial, the service was expanded across the district nursing team, demonstrating how digital tools can complement clinical expertise and improve continuity of care.
